If you’re looking for a day-trip from Koh Samui that doesn’t disappoint in terms of sheer beauty and tranquility, visiting Koh Tan for the day is a great option. Often referred to as simply ‘Coral Island,’ Koh Tan is the perfect respite from some of the more lively beaches on Samui and is a top spot for snorkelling and exploring.

What and where?

Koh Tan is the largest and only inhabited island in an archipelago that includes Koh Mudsum, Koh Raab, Koh Wang Nok and Koh Wangnai. Sitting just a 30-minute boat ride away from Koh Samui, Koh Tan can be reached from the southern pier at Thong Krut. Not to be confused with the larger, more popular Koh Tao, Koh Tan is a small, largely unspoiled island.

What is there to do on Koh Tan?

The main attraction on Koh Tan is of course its white sandy beaches, shaded by coconut trees and surrounded by coral reef. This makes the island a great place for snorkellers and sunbathers looking to relax. The sand is fine and white, and the colourful marine life will keep snorkellers happy for hours. Inland, there’s a tiny village, but there are no cars or roads on the island so this must be reached by foot. If you make the trek though, it’s worth it just to see the seven-meter whale skeleton at Bor Muang Sanctuary.

Whether you want to explore the colourful marine life, indulge in a spot of sightseeing or simply relax on the beach, visiting Koh Tan from Koh Samui comes highly recommended.

To take in the main sights on Koh Samui before indulging in some lunch and snorkelling on Koh Tan, book onto a Koh Samui Island Cruise and Snorkel Full-Day Tour.
